Cornish Maine Boudoir Studio // Why Good Customer Service Matters

Have you ever had one of those moments where a bad experience with customer service made you realize just how much you value good service? That happened to me recently while car shopping. What started as an already unpleasant day ( I hate car shopping) quickly became a frustrating ordeal at a few “Walmart of car sales” type dealerships.

The first places I visited felt like assembly lines. The sales staff didn’t bother to ask me about what I was looking for in a car, what features mattered to me, or even what my budget was. When I said I wanted to test-drive a couple of cars, I was told I could only try two. They took my trade-in car to evaluate, but I never even got the quote back. I’m still waiting for that quote, BTW. It felt like I was just another number to them—not a potential customer about to make a significant purchase.

By the time I left, I was beyond disappointed. I had money in my pocket and a genuine desire and need to buy, but the lack of care and interest left me feeling disrespected and unimportant.

Thankfully, I had another appointment that day. I drove an hour to another dealership, and the experience was night and day. The salesperson listened to me. He asked questions, took notes, and adjusted his recommendations based on my feedback. I felt heard, valued, and supported. By the end of the day, I found a car I loved because they took the time to understand me and my needs.

This whole situation taught me a lot as a business owner. As I reflected on that experience, it reminded me of why I’m so intentional about how I treat my clients. Boudoir photography is deeply personal, and just like car shopping, it’s not one-size-fits-all. Each client who steps into my studio has unique needs, desires, and insecurities. It’s my job to listen, guide, and make them feel understood.

Here’s how I bring good customer service into my work:

1. Listening is Everything

When a client reaches out to me, it’s not just about booking a session—it’s about connecting. I ask questions. What inspires you to book this session? What are you hoping to feel when you see your images? Do you have a vision for your shoot? This allows me to tailor the experience to celebrate their individuality.

2. Adjusting to Feedback

Much like the good car salesperson who adjusted their car recommendations based on my feedback, I take my clients' input seriously. Whether it’s about wardrobe, lighting, or even posing, I’m here to adapt. If something isn’t working for you, I want to know so we can pivot.

3. Proactive Communication

I don’t ghost my clients after they book. I check in leading up to their session to ensure they’re feeling prepared and excited. If a client needs help, whether it’s about wardrobe choices, nerves, or something else entirely, I’m just a text away.

That day of car shopping taught me a valuable lesson: we all want to feel valued, no matter the service or product. In my boudoir photography business, I strive to create an experience that reflects how I’d want to be treated.

You’re not just booking a photoshoot—you’re trusting me to capture your unique beauty and story. And I promise to honor that trust by listening, supporting, and celebrating you every step of the way.

Because good customer service isn’t just good business—it’s the right thing to do.
