Cornish, Maine Maternity & Boudoir Photographer // How Do I Create a Unique Boudoir Experience For Each Off My Clients // Boudoir Photo Shoot
Everyone is different, therefore every session has to be tailored to each individual woman that walks through my studio’s door. The prep for the photo session starts before you even sign the contract and are put on my schedule. It starts with that original email or phone call. That’s when the ever so important question comes up. Why? Why do you want to do a boudoir or maternity boudoir photoshoot? Everyone’s why is always a little different. I mean, they always want to do it for themselves, but why? Some woman have just had a baby or are pregnant, but, regardless of the reason, that’s the first moment that we both start comparing visions to see what they want their pictures to look like.
After that original correspondence, I send out just a generic questionnaire. It has a ton of questions ranging from what do you want to do with your pictures, to what do you want your hair and makeup to look like or what is your favorite attribute or what type of boudoir are you most attracted to and so on. Filling out this questionnaire is super helpful to get the ball rolling with helping you style your session so your pictures look exactly how you want them to look.
Next I will ask you to show me examples either from my website or, if you’re a Pinterest fan from there, examples of what type of boudoir that you like or clothing choices. Obviously, these are not so we can copy those pictures, but draw inspiration from them.
Then we talk clothing, or lack there of. Are you a band t-shirt and fishnets type of girl or are you a classic lace lingerie woman? Both are amazing for boudoir. The possibilities are really endless for boudoir sessions. I don’t even think that most woman realize that a oversized sweater can be the most stunning prop for their photo shoot.
Once I know what type of boudoir you are drawn too and what type of outfits you are bringing, I start thinking about backdrops, poses and overall feeling to your images. I wouldn’t be able to do that without all the prep work. Literally, all of my sessions would look 100% the same if I didn’t have these conversations with my clients ahead of time.
Once you arrive in the studio, we are already like good friends and we will sit for a moment and go over how the session will flow. We will look over your outfits and decide which ones go best with each backdrop and pose. Then we start taking pictures!
I want every one of my photo shoots to represent the model that is in them and this preparation really makes that happen. It’s such a seamless process and I wouldn’t be able to make each of my photo shoots truly unique without it.
