Cornish, Maine Boudoir Photographer // Katy // Studio Boudoir Photo Shoot
Nothing makes me happier than when clients totally trust the process and let me try out new lighting and posing techniques. I do a ton of stylized maternity boudoir shoots (studio backdrop with simple light setups), but I rarely do these setups for my regular boudoir clients. Nothing is more powerful than one of these striking portraits. So, I figured, why not try this on just my regular boudoir ladies. The results were absolutely stunning!
Katy arrived the day of her session with wardrobe in tow. We looked over what she brought and I discussed with her the flow of the day’s session. I wanted to start simple as I typically do. Almost as a type of warm up for the rest of the session, we started at the simple black backdrop. I put Katy in a pose with a one light set up. This has always been my favorite type of lighting because there’s nothing I hate more than flat multiple light setups! It also has almost become somewhat of a signature to my studio work.
Katy was no stranger to boudoir sessions having done one in the past. She posed easily as we talked. Now that we had worked out the initial jitters that accompanies every boudoir client, we moved onto some different posing on lifestyle sets that I have in my studio. I had just gotten a new couch (story of my life!) in there and wanted to see how if photographed. I loved the light where I positioned it so now I just needed to see how a person looked on it. It worked perfectly for Katy. We did a few poses before I turned the couch into a bed. I’m all about working smarter and not harder!
Katy changed into her next outfit and I set up the next backdrop to do some simple stylized pictures. This set of pictures turned out to my favorite of the day. Once again, simple dark background with one light for dramatic effect. We did a few different poses while I messed around with different cropping in camera. I love, love, love how unconventional cropping of pictures looks.
We wrapped up and talked for a few while Katy gathered her belongings. It was a great session and I am super proud of these pictures!
