There are 2 different styles of boudoir that I specialize in. My classic, dark boudoir is hands down, the most asked for type of photoshoot. When someone is talking about boudoir, this is typically the genre that people think of. I just put my own little personal spin on it by making by sets and lighting beautifully dark and romantic.

Let’s start by defining what classic lifestyle boudoir is. It’s really easy to look at pictures and say that you like something and a little bit more difficult to articulate it if need be. So by Google’s definition Lifestyle Boudoir photography is a “photographic style featuring intimate, sensual and romantic images of its subject in a photographic studio or bedroom primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subjects and their romantic partners.” It mainly aims to capture the subject, although posed, in their “natural environment” to give more of a “real life” effect.

My studio was designed with this genre of boudoir in mind. For starters, my walls are painted black with a dark gray chair rail. The dark colored walls keep the light from bouncing around the room and making my photographs too light. Remember that I love shadows and contrast and light and airy is just not my jam. Also to make that contrast, I had a few very large windows installed with diffusing curtains that let in just the right amount of soft light. This helps create the soft touches of light that touch my subjects. It helps create that amazing mysterious and romantic feel to my photographs.

But most importantly with this genre, I have different sets ups to have my clients pose on. Basically, I turned my studio into the most comfortable room in the house. This part was imperative for the “lifestyle” part of this genre. My couches and chairs make for causal setups for my clients to pose on. It makes my clients feel more comfortable to sit on a couch sometimes then posing on a photography backdrop. It feels more true to life for them and in minutes has them feeling at ease in their session. I love the posed, but not too posed feeling of these sessions. More importantly, it make all of my clients look incredible and flawless! And isn’t that the whole point? Every woman that leaves my studio, leaves feeling like a different person.
